Activities for the year 2007:  March 24, 1:00 - 4:00 pm:  Slide presentation by fellow member Phyllis Randall, at the Bellevue Public Library, 1003 Lincoln Road.  She will talk about Hostas and other shady loving plants.  See enclose map.  This will be a pot luck meeting.  Shady Choice will provide fried chicken from No Frills and paper plates and plastic ware.  Members should bring a side dish or desert and something to drink (no alcohol). April 22, 1:00 – 4:00 pm:  Water Features.  Adding a whole new dimension to your garden by Lori Hunt of Pondibilities presented at the Lauritzen Gardens.  This is free admission to the Gardens so here is your chance to tour them after the meeting. Be it in the form of a "disappearing fountain", a tub garden or an entire pond, water brings a magical touch to your own back yard.  Lori will talk about very low maintenance fountains that fit in nearly any nook or cranny and demonstrate containers for deck or patio that can be planted with lush, low-care water plants.  Ponds and the plants to enhance them will be our main discussion of the afternoon. May 27, 4:00 pm - ??:  Memorial Day Picnic at Phyllis and John Randall’s Oakcrest Gardens.  Shady Choice is providing the meat.  Members should bring a side dish or desert.  Map to Oakcrest Gardens will be included in the May newsletter.   June 3, 1:00 – 4:00 pm:  Annual Plant sale at Jensen Specialized Printing, 1446 S 13th Street, Omaha.  Notice to Shady Choice members.  While Shady Choice gets a percentage of the sales of the growers, we need plants donated by members to really make money.  If you plan on donating plants, please start them early in pots so that they look good by the time of the plant sale.  Also, we really need unusual Hostas, not the normal everyday variety and we don’t need just Hostas, other companion plants can also be donated.  Don’t forget to label the plants and price them. June 10:  Monroe-Meyer Garden Walk.  More information will be provided in the future. June 23, 11:00 – 2:00 pm:  Tour of Blair Gardens of Dave Brown and Jane and Milt Heinrich.  Directions to Dave and Nancy Browns’ Gardens and Jane and Milt’s gardens June 23, 2:00 – 4:00 pm:  Tour of Dave Thacker’s gardens.  Additional information and directions are in the newsletter. July 21, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm:  Group Round Robin discussion session and Plant Exchange.  This will be held at the home of Marty and Gary Hicks.  Details of this event are currently being worked.  Look for more about this 1st time event for Shady Choice members. Map to Marty's & Gary's August:  By-month.  At this time there is nothing scheduled for August but if a member has any ideas please provide them to any of the officers. September 9, Joslyn Castle Garden Festival [see PDF] September 16, 4:00 pm - ??:  Wrap up meeting at the home of Jan Thompson and Jim Beam, 13610 Shongaska Road, Omaha.  The meeting is a pot luck and attendees should bring a side dish or dessert.  Jan and Jim are providing the meat and drinks but others need to bring a side dish.
