How often should you treat your lawn?

Warm-season grasses, such as Bermuda grass, St. Augustine, zoisia, centipede and buffalo grass, should be fertilized in spring. Depending on how much water your lawn gets, try to reapply the fertilizer every 6 to 8 weeks. Keep a close eye on your lawn.

If it looks thick and green, you can probably skip your diet. If it starts to look brown or black, take care of your lawn with a little care. Usually, you only need to fertilize your lawn an average of twice a year (and avoid over-fertilization). The last thing your lawn needs is constant overfeeding.

It does nothing to benefit the grass and can be harmful to the environment. For most lawns, applying fertilizer once or twice a year is sufficient to keep the grass green and healthy. The exact time at which you apply the fertilizer depends partly on your climate, but mostly on the type of grass you have. The key is to fertilize during the season when the grass is growing the most.

If the lawn is damaged and you grow it fresh, it will need more treatments until it sets in. You must address every problem and treat your lawn holistically to achieve the green grass you've always dreamed of.
